Report Cards:
There will be four reporting periods during the school year. Report cards will be handed out in November, January, April, and June. Each mark on the report card will represent the work done in that reporting period, except the final mark, which will show the complete year's work. Effort marks will be shown for grades 6-9.
Honor Roll:
We display an honor roll at the end of each reporting period for grade 6-9. There are three honor rolls:
- Academic Honor Roll - Any student in grade 6-9 who has a mark of 80% or better (when we average the core subject marks) in math, science, language, P.E., social and health.
- Principal's Honor Roll - any student who can achieve a mark of 80% or better in all of the following core subjects: math, science, language, P.E., social, health.
- Effort Honor Roll - Any student who achieves an effort average of 80% or better in core subjects. * means all effort marks are above 80%. ** means all effort marks are 100%.
Incomplete Assignments:
If a student consistently misses assignments, a letter will be sent to the parents/guardians indicating that a problem exists. Parental support is solicited to correct the situation. If the problem continues (i.e. more assignments missed) the child may be suspended from class for 2 days and parents must meet with the principal before re-admittance can occur. Failure to do this, or if the problem continues, the student will be suspended from school and re-admittance may be granted only by the Superintendent of Schools.
Testing and Promotional Policy:
Students and parents should be aware that the testing program in the school is important to a pupil's grades and also necessary to his/her promotion to the next grade. Students will be evaluated according to four measures: 1. Teacher's tests, 2. The ability and effort of the student, 3. Divisional Achievement Tests, 4. Provincial Achievement Exams. Any student who receives lower than 50% on 2 or more core subjects for a final grade, will be discussed by the failure review committee at the end of June and could fail his/her grade. It should be noted that in consultation with the parent, a look at abilities and extenuating circumstances are considered before a final decision is made. Teacher tests will be given periodically during classroom periods on units of instruction, but more formal testing will occur prior to report card distribution. Government Achievement Exams and Final Exams are given at the end of the school year and will be announced. No provision for make-up can be allowed for Government exams. Date for the Government Achievement and final exams are listed on the calendar. Final exams are the same time as the Achievement exams.
