Bullying:
The Glenwood School ensures that all students fell safe when they attend. We give all students, parents, and guardians, a fair notice that bullying will not be tolerated. The following is the bullying policy for our school.
- Report promptly the details of the complaint.
- The person in authority will conduct an investigation, which may consist of personal interviews with the complainant, the alleged offender, and others who have direct knowledge of the incidents or circumstances that led to the complaint.
- That person, if necessary, directly advises the offender, either verbally or in writing, that his/her behavior is unacceptable and unwelcome, an ask him/her to stop.
- All complaints will be dealt with. The person in authority may consider the following:
- If the complaint is deemed to be frivolous or vexatious the person in authority may decide that no action is necessary.
- Advise the offender that it be expected the behavior will cease immediately. If it does not cease, appropriate interventions will take place including, but not exclusive to, a warning, an offering of a verbal or written apology, suspension or recommendation for expulsion. Where appropriate, parent(s)/guardian(s) of the students involved will be informed.
Late Assignments (Gr. 6-9):
If a student consistently misses assignments, a letter will be sent to the parents/guardians indicating that a problem exists. Parental support is solicited to correct the situation. If the problem continues (i.e. more assignments missed) the child may be suspended from class for 2 days and parents must meet with the principal before re-admittance can occur. Failure to do this, or if the problem continues, the student will be suspended from school and re-admittance may be granted only by the Superintendent of Schools.
Truancy:
If a student is truant from a school day, the parents will be asked to call in and explain the student's absence. Failure to do this will result in a Principal's suspension. Note: For the purpose of this policy, truancy is defined as a student being absent for reasons unacceptable according to Section 143 of the School Act.
Vandalism:
Any willful destruction of school property will result in the offender or offender's parents being responsible to pay for the repair of the damage property.
